Job Title:  Health Information Management Clerk

Position Summary:  The HIM clerk assists the HIM Director with reviewing medical records for completeness, delivering documents requested by hospital departments, entering and retrieving data and runs reports to complete the medical records. In addition, the HIM clerk complies, verifies, and scans records of the hospital or other health care facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Job-Related Skills:  Basic clerical training which includes computer skills, basic filing skills and fundamental knowledge of office procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of health record contents and sequence, and medical terminology.
  • Experience:  Prior experience in medical records desired. 

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills:

A. Applies appropriate methods to ensure the authenticity of health data entries in   the electronic information system.

1. Analyze patient charts routed to physicians, nurse practitioner and hospitals for completion.

2. Locate and retrieve information in the Electronic Health Record for various purposes.

3. Perform data entry of narrative nature.

4. Prepare workload reports and managerial support data.

5. Maintains health record tracking system for all records distributed from and received by the hospital.

6. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of basic equipment and work station in the HIM department.

7. Assign deficient records to physicians for completion.

8. Receives, reviews for completeness and processes requests for personal health information.

9. Coordinates requests and delivery of health records with other departments in hospital as needed.

10.    Processes work within specific deadlines and times frames.

11.  Attends HIM staff meetings and in-service programs.

  12. Executes other duties assigned by the HIM Director when need arises.

Other Significant Requirements:

  1. Maintain HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  2. Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Mitchell County Hospital District.
  3. Proficiency in the operation of the telephone, computer, printer, scanner.
  4. Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Work Schedule:

Monday- Friday 8:00am -5:00pm 

1 hour lunch break
