Mitchell County Hospital District (“MCHD”) is notifying individuals of a data security incident that may have impacted their personal information. MCHD takes the privacy and security of all information seriously and apologizes for any concern or inconvenience this incident may cause.

What Happened?

On March 6, 2026, MCHD identified suspicious activity within its network. MCHD immediately implemented its incident response protocols, took its network offline, and external cybersecurity experts were engaged to conduct an investigation to determine what occurred and whether any data may have been impacted.  While the investigation is ongoing, the investigation to date has determined that an unauthorized individual gained access to some MCHD systems which stored files that may have contained protected health information (“PHI”). MCHD is in the process of reviewing files on systems that were impacted by this incident.

What MCHD is doing?

MCHD has taken steps to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future. Since the incident, MCHD deployed enhanced endpoint monitoring software, changed passwords, and implemented additional security controls. MCHD also notified law enforcement. MCHD has no evidence that any files potentially impacted by this incident have been misused and MCHD is posting this notice out of an abundance of caution.

Letters will be mailed to potentially impacted individuals once the review of the potentially impacted files has been completed. These letters will contain more information about the incident, complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, and steps individuals can take to protect themselves.

What You Can Do:

Individuals should review credit reports, bank account and other financial statements, and immediately contact their financial institution if they identify suspicious activity.
